Finance Specialist
Remote - Full-Time - Salary: $3,500 - $4,000/month
Company Overview
We are a growth-focused partner helping e-commerce brands make smarter financial and operational decisions through data, forecasting, and profitability analysis. The team works closely with ambitious online businesses to understand their financial performance, identify opportunities, and build the forecasting systems needed to scale profitably. This is a high-ownership environment where financial expertise, analytical thinking, and the ability to turn complex data into clear business decisions are highly valued.
Mission
We are seeking a Finance Specialist to own financial forecasting and performance analysis across e-commerce clients. You will build revenue forecasts from scratch, analyze client P&Ls and margins, and turn Shopify and other e-commerce data into clear financial insights and recommendations.
This is not primarily a bookkeeping role. We are looking for someone with deep e-commerce finance and FP&A expertise who understands how online businesses generate revenue, how new and returning customers impact forecasts, and how metrics such as AOV, margins, and cash conversion cycles affect profitability.
You will work closely with clients and senior stakeholders and must be confident enough to explain financial performance, forecasts, and recommendations directly to founders and CFOs. You should be senior and autonomous enough to independently own the finance and forecasting side of the business with minimal oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Own financial forecasting for e-commerce clients, including building and maintaining revenue forecasts from scratch.
- Forecast revenue by key drivers, including new customer and returning customer revenue.
- Review client P&Ls, margins, and financial performance during onboarding and on an ongoing monthly basis.
- Analyze e-commerce performance and translate financial and operational data into actionable business insights.
- Develop and maintain financial models using Excel and Google Sheets, including forecasting, scenario planning, and sensitivity analysis.
- Analyze key e-commerce metrics including AOV, customer behavior, revenue trends, contribution margins, profitability, and cash conversion cycles.
- Reconcile and interpret revenue across different data sources, understanding why revenue figures may differ between Shopify, payment processors, accounting systems, and analytics platforms.
- Use Shopify data and e-commerce analytics platforms to assess financial performance and profitability.
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities in client financial performance and proactively communicate recommendations.
- Prepare clear financial reporting and analysis for clients and internal stakeholders.
- Communicate financial insights directly with clients and senior finance stakeholders, including CFOs, when required.
- Build financial scenarios to support decisions around growth, costs, hiring, marketing spend, and profitability.
- Collaborate with the existing bookkeeping function and provide financial guidance or coordination when needed.
- Maintain basic familiarity with accounting systems such as QuickBooks Online or Xero to support coordination with bookkeeping teams.
- Continuously improve forecasting processes, financial models, reporting systems, and analytical workflows.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in finance, FP&A, financial analysis, or a similar role.
- Strong experience specifically within e-commerce / DTC businesses.
- Proven experience building financial forecasts and models from scratch.
- Strong understanding of e-commerce financial drivers, including AOV, new vs. returning customer revenue, margins, profitability, and cash conversion cycles.
- Strong Shopify financial and metrics knowledge, including understanding how revenue is calculated and reported across different platforms.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and/or Google Sheets.
- Experience analyzing client P&Ls and financial performance on a monthly basis.
- Comfortable working directly with founders, senior leadership, and CFO-level stakeholders.
- Strong business judgment and ability to turn financial data into practical recommendations.
- Highly autonomous and capable of independently owning the finance/forecasting function with minimal supervision.
- Basic familiarity with QuickBooks Online or Xero for coordination with bookkeeping teams.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with Triple Whale or similar e-commerce profit and financial analytics platforms.
